Maija Rautasuo | Coloratura Soprano
Coloratura soprano Maija Rautasuo is completing her Master’s degree in Opera at the Sibelius Academy. Rautasuo graduated as a vocal pedagogue from Metropolia University of Applied Sciences in 2022 and as a Master of Education from the University of Eastern Finland in 2018.
Rautasuo’s most recent roles include Eurydice from Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld (PKMO Opera) and Argento’s Lady With a Hand Mirror from the opera Postcard from Morocco (Sibelius Academy Opera). Other notable opera roles include Anna in Nicolai’s The Merry Wives of Windsor & Susanna in Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro (Sibelius Academy Opera), Adina in Donizetti’s The Elixir for Love (Opera Extravaganza), Irene in Rautavaara’s The House of the Sun (Metropolia UAS) and Rouva Kirves in Merikanto’s Elinan surma (Esmo ry). In spring 2024, she was also heard as a soloist with the Helsinki City Orchestra in Mahler’s Eighth Symphony in the role of Mater gloriosa. In spring 2025 she sang the soprano solo’s in Orff’s Carmina Burana in Musiikkitalo. Her singing repertoire includes a wide variety of music, from baroque to modern music.
Rautasuo has gained competition experience in 2025 at the Lappeenranta Singing Competition and in 2021 at the Timo Mustakallio Competition in Savonlinna and later that year at the Helsinki Lied Competition with pianist Pinja Ukkola. Rautasuo and Ukkola have worked and performed together as a lied duo since 2020.
